I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to interview Carlos Palooza on the Psychedelic-Revolution this past week. What really stood out to me in this interview, and I am still actually quite shocked was to learn that Carlos’s first psychedelic experience was in 2018. When I came into the psychedelic space, Carlos was already a very established force of nature. Carlos founded Decrim Nature in 2019. Decrim Nature organization is a driving force in the decriminalization of psychedelics movement. Through grassroots efforts and organizing this organization has produced significant results. This includes decriminalization of psilocybin legislation passed in 15 cities. As well as a huge influence role on the state legislations that passed in Oregon, Colorado, and that are coming to a state near you, including California, Washington state, Massachusetts, Virginia, New Jersey, just to name a few.
To hear Carlos tell his own personal story, which I'd never heard before, about his search for meaning to understand the infinite for his entire life from the age of seven was fantastic. This quest for truth led him to have his own personal psychedelic journey and experience in 2018.
After this experience, Carlos started Decrim Nature in 2019. Whether you agree with all of the Decrim Nature tactics or positions, I think we can all applaud the influence in decriminalizing plant medicine that Decrim Nature has had on the country and the movement.
I was very impressed with the way that Carlos fully owned the mistakes that Decrim Nature made especially in not supporting Prop 122. Owning that error without excuses really demonstrated that the movement is what is most important to Carlos and not one organization winning. The goal is to create the best possible policies for the world.
Carlos is a very authentic man who is really looking to change the world. I hope that I am able to play a role in bringing about the Convergence of the various decrim factions and get everyone to come to the table in order to make peace.
Perhaps this interview will be heard by the New Approach leaders and that we can bring the convergence together. We are all coming at this from a place of compassion and love, and although there may be some different viewpoints about how to achieve the ideal future for a world with psychedelics, we can all agree that we all want an environment where healing can take place.
Interviews like this one with Carlos Paloza make me very optimistic for the future.
